I
am pleased to serve as the 2012 president of the Richmond Chapter of the
National Black MBA Association. I have been a member of this
organization beginning as a collegiate member in the 90’s and continue
to strongly believe in the mission and vision of the organization and
the value it brings to the community.
Having served as VP of Operations and now as President with a clear
focus on our goals and initiatives, I see a significant value in
maintaining the presence of the Richmond chapter of NBMBAA. As such, I
look to grow our membership, become more entrenched in the business
community, partner with like organizations who share our vision and
values, focus on key topics of importance to both our members and
partners, work to better position the chapter via exposure and branding,
implement those things that have relevance to our membership and the
community served and collaborate with other chapters within the East
region.
I hope to bring a fresh perspective to all that the chapter can
accomplish for the betterment of our organization and our community as a
whole. I am very committed to the success of this organization on both a
local and national level and am entrenched in improving our model by
staying connected both nationally and locally.
As we move forward in 2012 and onward, the chapter looks provide member
value and continue to develop key programming as we have successfully
done while overseeing and serving in the operations role over the past
couple of years by bringing in premiere programs and developing and
participating in key initiatives critical to membership, partners and
youth to whom we serve as mentors. Activities include:
-
Providing relevant programming to the membership
-
Alton
Jamison - Renowned Life Coach and author
-
Congressman Bobby Scott of the 3rd
Congressional District, VA
-
Raymond
Owens - Sr. Economist, Federal Reserve
Bank
-
Serving on the Structure Task Force charged with looking
at ways to refine the relationship between local
chapters and National Headquarters
-
Facilitating creation of the Mid-level management
development initiative - providing member value
-
Forging a key strategic partnership with Capital One and
bridging relationships with other corporate partners who
share our vision and values
-
Being
recognized as one of the recipients of the Leaders of
Tomorrow Grant in support of key youth development
efforts
As we carve out our
strategy for 2012 and onward, I am looking to engage in meeting the
following goals:
-
Focus
on youth development and excellence
-
To
create a marquis Scholarship program
-
To
grow our Leaders of Tomorrow program (LOT) by increasing
our number of dedicated mentors and participating in the
national case competition
-
To
build collaborative relationships with the business
community
-
To
enhance the caliber of programming and create better
member value
-
To
forge strategic partnerships with like organizations
-
Re-engage inactive members and better articulate the
value proposition
-
To
increase membership via highlighting member benefits at
both a local and national level
-
To
increase volunteerism and build sound committees focused
on organizational goals
-
To
build our brand locally
-
To
work in concert with NHQ and insure compliance and brand
integrity
-
To
increase financial responsibility and fundraising
efforts in support of our core programs: Scholarship,
LOT, community engagement and member development through
programming
We have a great
team of professional, competent and diverse talent assembled and I am
confident that we will deliver in a manner consistent with the rich
history of this stellar organization.
