Diversity at Capital One is putting our differences to work to add value to the business. Diversity goes beyond race, age and gender to include ethnicity, nationality, culture, accent, sexual orientation, religion, education, physical ability, age, Text Box: demographics, philosophy and style.  Needless to say, the best people come in all varieties.

We have developed a five point strategy that drives our diversity focus. At Capital One we strive to recruit, retain, develop, and inspire the best and most qualified people in the world.  This means people who span the entire spectrum of differences.

Associates have many opportunities to be involved with diversity initiatives at Capital One. From Diversity Forums, to Heritage Months, to Associate Networks, our associates can actively participate and get involved.

The Diversity Forum is held each spring and fall. We feature internal and external presenters and experiential learning activities to broaden participants' understanding of Capital One's diversity strategy and to build their individual leadership competency.

Throughout the year, we recognize eight different Heritage Months. In February, we celebrated Black History Month. We invited International Human Rights Activist Naomi Tutu to speak at our culmination event on Feb 24th. March is Women’s History Month and we featured articles spotlighting local and national women who have achieved amazing accomplishments in their lives. May is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month and we celebrate with the local community at large. We also
pay tribute to Older Workers in

Text Box: May. In June, we recognize the
LGBT community. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in September. We also have plans for recognition of Disability Employment Awareness month in October, and American Indians in November.

Capital One's Associate Networks were created to support our growing diverse population.  Membership in networks is open to all associates. Currently, the following Networks are active at Capital One; Asian, African-American, Women, LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender), and Hispanic.

Our Associate Networks actively support Capital One’s presence at external recruiting events. In 2005, members from the Networks will attend the following recruiting events: Governor Warner’s High-Tech Career Fair, NSBE, NBMBAA, NSHMBA, Reaching Out MBA and Linkage Women’s Leadership Forum.

We have developed a corporate partnership with NBMBAA, and particularly with the Richmond chapter that encompasses event sponsorship, print, and Internet recruitment, local chapter partnering, and direct mail opportunities. Our goal is to take our corporate partnership to the next level, establishing the NBMBAA as a business partner, thus opening the opportunity for greater marketing efforts, board involvement, and priority positioning.
